6769: initiation
Native culture as a force and an injury—this polarity of experiences induces the internal pulsation of the “Initiation” series. Here the artist is rethinking her own cultural heritage as an Assyrian in this six-piece graphic series. The ancient history of the Assyrian people stirs the imagination with paintings of the “lost kingdom,” rich in mythology but still living today in the wreckage of culture scattered throughout the world. Sad and disturbing memories of family and the fragile life of a culture trying to gain a place to exist, though filled with pain, but also gain strength: a human stands at his/her roots in order to feel secure. Each work is an episode of a myth that the artist created about a hero who stands his way from a naive and timid existence to becoming his own support.
The structure of the myth:
I. Naiveness
II. Apple-tree
III. Pain
IV. Flower-identity
V. Ouroboros
VI. Gardener
